Ohio Redistricting Challenge (OOC)

Ohio Organizing Collaborative v. Ohio Redistricting Commission

Lawsuit filed on behalf of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC), the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Ohio, the Ohio Environmental Counsel and six voters challenging Ohio’s new General Assembly maps passed after the release of 2020 census data. The complaint argues that the new maps are extreme partisan gerrymanders that favor Republicans in violation of the Ohio Constitution. Along with diluting the voting power of Democrats, the complaint argues that these maps intentionally weaken the influence of the state’s growing Black and Muslim communities. The parties ask that the state Supreme Court block the new maps from going into effect and order the creation of new maps.
