Texas Wet Signature

Texas Democratic Party v. Hughs

Lawsuit filed on behalf of the Texas Democratic Party, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) challenging Texas’ announcement prohibiting electronically signed voter registration applications. The complaint argues that this “wet signature” rule imposes an arbitrary requirement and burdens voters and voting advocacy organizations. After the district court denied the defendants’ motion to dismiss, the Texas secretary of state filed an interlocutory appeal to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The 5th Circuit dismissed the case for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.
