The Republican Party’s historic losses in November 2020, compounded by Trump and his allies’ baseless voter fraud rhetoric, has fueled the demand for restrictive voting laws. From Georgia to Arizona, we’re already seeing a flurry of legislation aimed at disenfranchising Black, brown and minority voters. Here’s a glimpse of what some of these bills are seeking to do:
- Eliminate no-excuse absentee voting
- Make it harder to obtain an absentee ballot
- Enforce stricter signature matching requirements
- Impose new or additional voter ID requirements
Democracy Docket is closely monitoring these developments as they move through state legislatures—but we can’t do it alone!
If you’re aware of a potential law that attempts to restrict voting access, tell us!
