Arizona Midterm Elections Automatic Recounts

In the matter of November 8, 2022 General Election

Petition for automatic recounts filed by Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D) requesting to conduct recounts for the 2022 elections for Arizona attorney general, superintendent of public instruction and representative for the 13th State House District. According to Arizona law, an automatic recount is triggered when the margin between two candidates who received the most votes “is less than or equal to one-half of one percent of the number of votes cast for both such candidates or on such measures or proposals.” Thus, the races for attorney general, superintendent and representative for the 13th State House District must be recounted as the margins of these races fall within that threshold. On Dec. 5, an Arizona judge ordered a statewide recount of these three races. On Dec. 29, the recount results were released, confirming the results of the midterms.
