Trump Campaign Loses Lawsuit in Georgia
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Less than 24 hours after the polls closed in Georgia, the Trump campaign and Georgia Republican Party sued the Chatham County Board of Elections in the Chatham County Superior Court to stop the counting of absentee ballots. The lawsuit accused Chatham County election officials of improperly counting absentee ballots received after the state’s ballot receipt deadline. In an affidavit, a GOP poll observer claimed to have seen 53 absentee ballots being moved from a back room and mixed into a set of ballots waiting to be tabulated.
The Democratic Party of Georgia quickly moved to intervene in the meritless lawsuit — and today it won. This morning, Chatham County Superior Court Judge James Bass dismissed the Trump campaign’s lawsuit. At the hearing, Chatham Board of Registrars Chairman Colin McRae stated that all 53 ballots in question were “timely received.”
This lawsuit joins other legal challenges brought by the Trump campaign demanding states halt the counting of ballots.
