Virginia Waynesboro Election Certification Refusal Challenge
Lewis v. Lilly
Lawsuit filed by five voters against Waynesboro Board of Elections Chairman Curtis Lilly and Vice Chairman Scott Mares challenging their recent statement asserting they would not certify the November 2024 general election. In a lawsuit filed on Oct. 4, 2024, the Waynesboro officials stated they would refuse to certify the election results if the votes were tabulated by voting machines. The voters argue Waynesboro’s statement violates the Virginia Constitution, and ask the court to order the Waynesboro Board of Elections to certify the November 2024 election.
RESULT: On Nov. 4, 2024, the circuit court ordered the Waynesboro Board of Elections to certify the results of the November 2024 general election.
