Pennsylvania COVID-19 Election Relief

Crossey v. Boockvar

Lawsuit filed on behalf of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans and individual voters against the Pennsylvania secretary of state and elections director asking the state to expand vote by mail opportunities during the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the complaint addressed four pillars to safeguard voting by mail: prepaid postage, postmark date, community ballot collection and signature matching training and voter notification. The complaint was originally filed with the Commonwealth Court before being transferred to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, which dismissed some claims as moot and denied the petitioners’ request to allow third-party assistance to return mail-in ballots.
