North Carolina November 2020 Election Challenge
North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans v. North Carolina
Lawsuit filed on behalf of the North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans and individual voters challenging the state’s vote by mail restrictions and in-person voting options for the 2020 general election. The parties entered a consent decree addressing issues raised in the complaints and the state agreed to extend ballot receipt deadlines, issue new cure guidance and expand absentee ballot drop off locations. State Republican legislative leaders along with the Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee, National Republican Congressional Committee, North Carolina Republican Party and Trump campaign intervened in the case as defendants seeking to pause the enforcement of the consent decree pending appeal. Both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court denied their motions and their appeal was withdrawn. The case was dismissed.
