Nevada Washoe County Voter Challenges Lawsuit

Petition filed by Citizens Outreach Foundation and a voter against Washoe County Registrar of Voters Carre-Ann Burgess challenging local county officials’ refusal to process voter challenges. In July 2024, Charles Muth and the Pigpen Project filed several voter challenges in almost every Nevada county, including Washoe County. On Aug. 27, 2024,  the Nevada secretary of state issued guidance requiring voter challengers to have personal knowledge of the facts supporting their challenge of another voter’s eligibility. The petitioners allege that Washoe County violated Nevada law by refusing to process their voter challenges and notify the voters, even though the petitioners attest to personal knowledge of the facts in their voter challenges. Petitioners seek a court order requiring Washoe County to process voter challenges submitted by the Pigpen Project.

RESULT: On Oct. 11, the petitioners dismissed their challenge against Washoe County.
