Georgia Fulton County DOJ 2020 Election Records Access Challenge
United States of America v. Alexander
An anti-voting lawsuit seeking to compel Fulton County to provide the DOJ with access to 2020 election records.
Background
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Fulton County Clerk of Court Che Alexander for refusing to turn over voting records from the 2020 presidential election. In October, the DOJ formally requested “all used and void ballots, stubs of all ballots, signature envelopes, and corresponding envelope digital files” from the 2020 general election in Fulton County, but claims Alexander failed to respond. The DOJ argues this failure violates Title III of the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (52 U.S.C. § 20703) and is asking the court to compel production of the requested records.
Why It Matters
This marks a major escalation in the Trump administration’s dangerous effort to revive President Donald Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was stolen.
