Wisconsin Racine Poll Workers Challenge
Hendrickson v. City Clerk of Racine
Lawsuit filed by two voters against the city clerk for the city of Racine, Wisconsin challenging the city’s decision to hire only eight out of 55 eligible Republican poll workers during the August 2024 primary elections. The plaintiffs allege that the city intentionally rejected Republican poll workers so that it could hire nonpartisan poll workers instead. They argue that this violates a state election law which requires the city to hire all eligible partisan poll workers before considering any nonpartisan poll workers for a given election. They ask the court to order Racine to accept all eligible Republican poll workers in future elections, including the 2024 general election.
STATUS: The plaintiffs filed their Sept. 13, 2024. On Sept. 26, the court denied the plaintiffs’ motion for a temporary injunction. Litigation is ongoing.
