Utah Voter Roll Access Challenge(PILF)

Lyman v. Henderson

An anti-voting lawsuit seeking access to Utah’s voter roll.

Background

PILF, a right-wing legal organization, is suing the Lieutenant Governor of Utah on behalf of a voter to compel the release of the statewide voter roll and history records. The plaintiff alleges that the denial of access to private voter registrations and the birthdate information of registrants violates Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act. The plaintiff argues that the denial impairs the voter’s ability to assess Utah’s enforcement of state and federal voter eligibility and voter list maintenance requirements. PILF requests that the court order the state to produce the complete statewide voter registration list.

Why It Matters
PILF has used similar lawsuits in the past to question the accuracy of states’ voter rolls and challenge  their list maintenance policies, seeking to have voters removed from the rolls.
