USPS Absentee Voter Portal Records Request
American Oversight v. U.S. Postal Service
A pro-voting lawsuit seeking to compel the U.S. Postal Service to provide documents related to the creation of a portal implementing Trump’s anti-mail voting executive order.
Background
American Oversight filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to compel the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to produce documents shedding light on a whistleblower’s disclosure about a portal created to implement part of President Donald Trump’s March 2026 anti-mail voting executive order (EO). The whistleblower detailed USPS’s creation of a portal for states to upload absentee voter information that was being developed in spite of a federal court injunction. The plaintiff submitted expedited Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests seeking records that would shed light on the whistleblower’s allegations, but USPS has failed to substantively respond to the FOIA request within the allotted ten calendar days. The lawsuit seeks to expedite USPS’s production of materials relevant to the FOIA request.
Why it Matters
Although SCOTUS blocked USPS’s final rule implementing part of Trump’s anti-mail voting EO for the midterms, the Trump administration has strategically delayed or ignored legal FOIA requests from pro-voter organizations seeking materials from government agencies related to Trump’s attempts to interfere in the midterms.
