Nevada Clark County Voter Roll Maintenance Challenge
Kraus v. Portillo
Petition filed by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) and two voters against Clark County Registrar of Voters, Lorena Portillo, challenging the maintenance of the county’s voter rolls. PILF alleges that there are nearly 90 commercial addresses listed in Clark County’s voter rolls, which violates a state law that requires voters to provide a residential address when they register to vote. PILF also alleges that on June 3, 2024, it informed the county registrar of the issue and asked her office to investigate, but did not receive a response indicating that any investigation or corrections took place. PILF argues that under state law, the county must maintain and ensure the accuracy of the county’s voter rolls. PILF asks the court to order Portillo to investigate voters registered at commercial addresses and correct the voter rolls.
The plaintiffs filed their complaint on June 25, 2024.
On Aug. 15, 2024, Portillo filed a motion to dismiss the case, demonstrating her office had investigated the voter registrations at these addresses.
On Aug. 21, 2024, PILF filed a stipulation to dismiss their own case.
RESULT: On Aug. 22, 2024, the judge formally dismissed this case.
