Mississippi Hinds County Election Certification Delay Challenge

Branning v. Hinds County Election Commission

Lawsuit filed by candidate for Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, Jenifer Branning, against the Hinds County Election Commission challenging Hinds County’s delay in certifying the results of the November 2024 election. In Mississippi, county election commissions must submit the certified results of an election to the secretary of state within 10 days of the election. Branning alleges Hinds County would violate Mississippi law if it does not submit its certified election results by Nov. 15, 2024. Hinds County has not yet certified the November 2024 election results because it has not finished counting all of the ballots. Branning asks the court to order the county to certify and submit its election results in compliance with state law.

RESULT: Branning voluntarily dismissed her case on Nov. 18, 2024.
