Maine Ranked-Choice Voting
Baber v. Dunlap
Lawsuit filed after the 2018 general election by Bruce Poliquin, the incumbent Republican congressman for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, challenging the constitutionality of Maine’s Ranked-Choice Voting Act. Poliquin argued that ranked-choice voting denies voters’ due process rights and violates the Voting Rights Act. Jared Golden, the Democratic challenger to Poliquin, intervened in the case. The court issued a judgment in favor of the defendants and Golden was elected as the representative for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
