Georgia Voter Suppression Bill (NAACP)

Georgia State Conference of the NAACP v. Raffensperger

Lawsuit brought by the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, League of Women Voters of Georgia, Galeo Latino Community Development Fund, Common Cause and the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe challenging several provisions of a Georgia voter suppression bill. The case claims that the bill’s voting restrictions — including new identification requirements for absentee voting, limits on the use of absentee drop boxes, invalidating ballots cast before 5:00 PM in the wrong precinct, banning any non-poll worker from giving food or drink, including water, to voters waiting in line and more — violate the First, 14th and 15th Amendments and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The Republican National Committee (RNC), National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and Georgia Republican Party intervened in the case to protect S.B. 202. Litigation is ongoing.
