Georgia Voter Suppression Bill (NAACP)

March 29, 2021

Lawsuit brought by the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, League of Women Voters of Georgia, Galeo Latino Community Development Fund, Common Cause and the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe challenging several provisions of a Georgia voter suppression bill. The case claims that the bill’s voting restrictions—including new identification requirements for absentee voting, limits on the use of absentee drop boxes, invalidating ballots cast before 5:00 PM in the wrong precinct, banning any non-poll worker from giving food or drink, including water, to voters waiting in line, and more—violate the First, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
