Georgia Fulton County Ballot Return Sites Challenge
Fulton County Republican Party v. Fulton County
Lawsuit filed by the Fulton County Republican Party and the Georgia Republican Party against Fulton County challenging the use of election offices as ballot return sites. For the November 2024 general election, Fulton County authorized its election offices to be opened on Nov. 2-3 so voters could hand-return their absentee ballots. Republicans allege the county’s actions violate state laws mandating all drop boxes remain closed after the early voting period, despite the county only offering voters an option to hand deliver their ballots to election offices. Plaintiffs ask the court to block the county from allowing voters to deliver their absentee ballots to election offices in Fulton County between Nov. 2-3.
RESULT: On Nov. 2, the court denied Republicans’ request to stop Fulton County from accepting absentee ballots at its election offices. Voters can still hand-return their ballots to the county’s election offices between Nov. 2-3.
