Pennsylvania Cambria County Poll Hours Extension Request

In re: Cambria County Board of Elections

Petition filed by the Cambria County Board of Elections seeking to extend the hours for in- person voting on Election Day from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. On the morning of Nov. 5, 2024, the county’s Electronic Voting System (EVS) experienced a software malfunction that prevented voters from properly scanning their ballots, leading to voter confusion and long lines. At the time the board of elections filed the complaint, the issue had still not been resolved. Due to the delays, many voters left before they had an opportunity to vote. The county asks the court to allow the county to keep the polls open for two more hours to give every voter an opportunity to vote

State and local branches of the Democratic and Republican parties intervened in this case.

RESULT: The county board of elections filed its petition on Nov. 5. The court granted the request for an extension, meaning the polls will be open until 10 p.m EST. Any voters who vote after 8 p.m. must cast a provisional ballot.
