Montana Green Party Petition Challenge

Lawsuit filed by the Montana Democratic Party and individual voters challenging a petition to select candidates for the Montana Green Party that was organized by the Montana Republican Party. Hundreds of Montana voters signed this petition believing it was legitimate, but the signature collection was led by a professional, out-of-state political consulting firm. The district court ordered the Montana secretary of state to remove the signatures of those who requested it and to withdraw the Green Party from the ballot. The Montana Supreme Court affirmed.
