Minnesota State House District 54A Election Contest

Paul v. Tabke

Lawsuit filed by Republican candidate for the Minnesota State House District 54A, Aaron Paul, against his Democratic opponent and incumbent, Brad Tabke, and two Scott County election officials challenging the results of the 2024 election. Tabke won the election by 14 votes after a recount on Nov. 21, 2024. Paul claims that the election results are invalid due to Scott County election officials’ announcement that up to 21 absentee ballots were lost and unable to be counted in the final tally. He also argues that the county strayed from proper election procedures and failed to secure absentee ballots in violation of Minnesota election law. Paul asks the court to declare the House District 54A election results invalid and order that the district’s seat remain vacant once Tabke’s term ends on Jan. 7, 2025, until a special election can take place in accordance with Minnesota law.

Paul filed his notice of election contest on Nov. 29, 2024. A hearing took place on Dec. 9, 2024. Trial took place on Dec. 16, 2024.

RESULT: On Jan. 14, 2025, the court denied Paul’s election contest. Brak Tabke remains the winner of Minnesota State House District 54A.
