Minnesota Redistricting Challenge

Sachs v. Simon

Lawsuit brought by individual voters challenging Minnesota’s legislative and congressional district maps following the release of 2020 census data. Originally filed in state county court, petitioners then asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to declare Minnesota’s current legislative and congressional district maps unconstitutional and implement new maps that adhere to the constitutional requirement of one person, one vote. A special redistricting panel has been appointed to hear and decide the case, which was consolidated with a similar case, Wattson v. Simon.

The parties’ proposed redistricting plans can be found here. Oral argument on proposed redistricting plans is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 9:30 am CST. A livestream of the oral argument can be viewed here.
