Michigan State Constitution Voting Challenges

Lawsuit filed on behalf of Priorities, USA and Rise, Inc. challenging two Michigan laws: a proof of residency requirement that strictly limits acceptable documents and an automatic registration process which only applies to those older than 17.5 years old. The trial court denied the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction, holding that neither law posed a large burden on the right to vote, and dismissed the case. The Michigan Supreme Court denied the plaintiffs’ application to appeal the trial court’s order.
