Kentucky Jefferson County Poll Hours Extension Request

Petition filed by the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) seeking to extend the close of Election Day polling hours in Jefferson County from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. KDP alleges that multiple technology failures and e-poll books crashes prevented poll workers from checking in voters and distributing ballots for approximately three and a half hours since polling locations opened at 6 a.m. The petition says the issues affected voters at Hartstern Elementary and other locations across Jefferson County. KDP asks the court to order polling hours to be extended until 8 p.m. in order to prevent a violation of the right to vote, which is protected by the Kentucky Constitution. 

RESULT: KDP filed its petition on Nov. 5, 2024. The court denied KDP’s motion to extend hours, meaning polling locations in Jefferson County will close at 6 p.m.
