Georgia Voter Suppression Bill (ACLU)

Sixth District of the AME Church v. Kemp

Lawsuit brought by the ACLU, SPLC, NAACP LDF and others on behalf of the Sixth District of the AME Church, Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Women Watch Afrika, Latino Community Fund of Georgia and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority challenging several provisions of Georgia voter suppression bill Senate Bill 202. The case claims that the bill’s voting restrictions — including new identification requirements for absentee voting, limits on the use of absentee drop boxes, invalidating ballots cast before 5:00 PM in the wrong precinct, banning any non-poll worker from giving food or drink, including water, to voters waiting in line and more — violate the 14th Amendment and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The Republican National Committee (RNC), National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and Georgia Republican Party intervened in the case to protect S.B. 202. Litigation is ongoing.
