Georgia Voter Suppression Bill (ACLU)

March 30, 2021

Lawsuit brought by the ACLU, SPLC, NAACP LDF and others on behalf of the Sixth District of the AME Church, Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Women Watch Afrika, Latino Community Fund of Georgia and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority challenging several provisions of a Georgia voter suppression bill. The case claims that the bill’s voting restrictions — including new identification requirements for absentee voting, limits on the use of absentee drop boxes, invalidating ballots cast before 5:00 PM in the wrong precinct, banning any non-poll worker from giving food or drink, including water, to voters waiting in line and more — violate the 14th Amendment and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
