The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is demanding sensitive voter data from Maine, including access to the state’s voter registration rolls, the secretary of state’s office said.

According to a press release, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D) recently received an inquiry from the DOJ into the state’s voter registration list. Bellows will hold a press conference Tuesday to further discuss what the release called the DOJ’s “unprecedented access to voter registration lists from all 50 states, including Maine.”

In the past several months, the DOJ has sent letters to more than a dozen states demanding access to sensitive voter information, including voter registration rolls, and other data to prove compliance with federal voting laws. Last week, Maryland and Michigan became the latest states to receive letters from the DOJ, demanding access to statewide voter registration lists.

It’s part of the DOJ’s radical anti-voting shift, with the department defending voter suppression laws and hunting for voter fraud rather than defending voting rights.
