Wyoming Photo ID Challenge
Newcomb v. Wyoming
Lawsuit brought by a Wyoming voter, Tim Newcomb, challenging Wyoming’s photo ID law, House Bill 0075. The law, which was enacted in 2021, requires voters to present an acceptable photo ID to vote, even though voters already must present a photo ID when registering. The plaintiff alleges that this new requirement violates Wyoming’s fundamental right to vote in violation of the Wyoming Constitution because it does not advance a compelling interest and only impedes on the ability to vote. The case was dismissed in Feb. 2023.
