Maryland Congressional Redistricting Challenge (Parrott)

Parrott v. Lamone

Lawsuit filed by the conservative group Judicial Watch on behalf of a group of Republican voters challenging Maryland’s new congressional map drawn with 2020 census data. The lawsuit argues that the new map is a partisan gerrymander that favors Democrats in violation of the Maryland Constitution. In particular, the plaintiffs allege that the new districts are not compact, don’t consist of “adjoining territory,” pair dissimilar communities together, unnecessarily split apart counties and disregard political boundaries to achieve a partisan lean. The lawsuit asks the state court to block the current map and enact a new map that complies with the state constitution. The case was consolidated with Szeliga v. Lamone; all future filings and updates can be found on that case page.
