Sen. Klobuchar Introduces Bill to Prioritize Election Mail
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On June 23, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) introduced S. 4487, also known as the Election Mail Act. S. 4487 would categorize all election mail as First-Class Service, provide pre-paid postage for all federal ballots and streamline the processing and delivery of election-related mail. The bill also prevents the U.S. Postal Service from making significant changes to their operations within 120 days of an election and requires the agency to consult with Native American tribes on addressing postal challenges that are specific to tribal lands.
“Millions of Americans use mail-in voting because it is a simple, accessible way to make their voices heard. That’s why it’s critical that election mail is delivered and processed in a timely manner and no voter has to pay for postage to cast a ballot,” said Klobuchar.
