Florida State Legislative Redistricting

July 21, 2020

Petition filed by then-Florida Attorney General Pamela Bondi seeking a declaratory judgment to determine the validity of the state’s redistricting maps — a statutory requirement passed in 2012 by the Florida Legislature. The Florida Democratic Party opposed the maps, claiming that they failed to abide by the newly-enacted state provision on partisan gerrymandering. The Florida Supreme Court found that the Florida House of Representatives map was constitutionally valid, but struck down the Senate plan as “rife with objective indicators of improper intent.”
