Florida Signature Match (2016)

July 21, 2020

Lawsuit filed by the Florida Democratic Party and DNC challenging the constitutionality of Florida’s vote-by-mail signature match law, which required election officials to reject vote-by-mail ballots if the signature did not match a “signature on record,” without any opportunity to cure ballots. The court granted a preliminary injunction requiring the Florida Secretary of State to provide voters an opportunity to cure ballots rejected due to a signature mismatch during the 2016 general election. The Florida Legislature amended the vote-by-mail law after this lawsuit to provide a statutory opportunity to cure vote-by-mail ballots.
