Florida College Survey Challenge

Link v. Corcoran

Lawsuit filed by Florida college students and professors against higher education government officials challenging House Bill 233, which requires the state’s public colleges and universities to conduct an annual survey of political ideologies among students and faculty and mandates that schools may not “shield” students or faculty from different types of speech. The complaint alleges that these provisions violate the First and 14th Amendments by infringing on constitutionally-protected freedoms of speech and association. The United Faculty of Florida — comprised of about 25,000 faculty and academic professionals at Florida’s public universities and community colleges — and March for Our Lives joined as plaintiffs in an amended complaint. Litigation is ongoing. A trial is set to begin on Jan. 9, 2023.
