Wayne County Board of Canvassers Deadlock on Election Results

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Two Republican members of the Wayne County, Michigan Board of Canvassers have refused to certify the Nov. 3 election results. In a board meeting tonight, the Republican members voted against certification because “many precincts in the county were out of balance by a few votes.” Board Vice Chairman Jonathan Kinloch called the decision “reckless and irresponsible.”

Wayne County is Michigan’s largest county and overwhelmingly voted for President-elect Joe Biden by more than 300,000 votes. Historically, the Board of Canvassers has voted to adopt the results in a bipartisan and uniform fashion, making the split on party-lines alarming. The State Board of Canvassers, which is composed of two Democrats and two Republicans, will now have to step in to certify the Wayne County election results.
