Trump Campaign Deposits $3 Million to Wisconsin Elections Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C. This morning, the Trump campaign deposited $3 million to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, signaling that Trump intends to move ahead with a recount in the state. So far, the payment covers recounts in Milwaukee and Dane counties. The exact counties where the recount will take place will not be finalized until the campaign officially files for a recount.

In Wisconsin, the losing candidate has the right to request a recount if the margin is less than one percent. However, because President-elect Joe Biden won the state by a margin of 0.7%, or about 20,000 votes, the Trump campaign must prepay the cost of the recount upfront. If the Trump campaign wants a statewide recount, it must pay nearly $8 million by tonight at 5 p.m. CT. Once paid for and finalized, the recount would begin this Friday. The recount must be completed by Tuesday, Dec. 1.
