Trump Impeachment Legal Team Rejects Raskin’s Request for Testimony

WASHINGTON, D.C.  In a three-paragraph letter, Trump’s legal team has confirmed that he will not provide testimony for the Senate impeachment trial.

The response follows a request by lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) for the former president’s testimony, arguing that his role as a private citizen further compels him to testify: “whereas a sitting President might raise concerns about distraction from their official duties, that concern is obviously inapplicable here. We therefore anticipate your availability to testify.”

Trump’s impeachment lawyers — Bruce Castor, Jr. and David Schoen — have called Raskin’s invitation a “public relations stunt,” writing that the “use of our Constitution to bring a purported impeachment proceeding is much too serious to try to play these games.”
