President Biden Nominates Voting Rights Lawyer to Federal Bench
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The White House announced a new round of judicial nominations to federal courts on Tuesday. Among the five nominees, a leading voting rights lawyer, Myrna Pérez, has been nominated to fill a vacancy on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Pérez is currently the director at the Brennan Center’s Voting Rights and Elections Program where she leads the program’s litigation and advocacy efforts on voting rights and election administration.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) recommended Ms. Pérez for the position, stating that “[w]ith a national focus on voting rights right now, it’s a significant step to elevate Ms. Pérez, one of the country’s foremost voting rights and election experts, to the federal bench.”
Schumer has also formally recommended another voting rights lawyer, Dale Ho, for the federal bench. Mr. Ho currently leads the Voting Rights Project at the ACLU.
