Pima County Votes To Adopt Vote Centers for 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday, the Pima County Board of Supervisors in Arizona voted to approve the use of vote centers for this year’s elections. Voters in Pima County will be able to vote at any of the centers regardless of where they live. Previously, voters had to cast their ballots at their assigned polling place for their vote to be counted. Pima County is the 12th county in Arizona to adopt the use of vote centers.
The use of vote centers remedies one of the consequences of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee. In that case, the Supreme Court upheld an Arizona law that bans counting the vote of someone who votes at the wrong polling place in their county. By adopting the use of vote centers, all Pima County voters can be sure their vote will be counted no matter where they vote. “Our new vote centers will help ensure that every Pima County voter will have their voice heard,” said Interim Pima County Elections Director Mary Martinson.
