UPDATE: Trump Campaign Deposits $3 Million to Wisconsin Election Commission
WASHINGTON, D.C.— This morning, the Trump campaign deposited $3 million to the Wisconsin Election Commission, signaling that Trump intends to move ahead with a recount in the state. So far, the payment covers recounts in Milwaukee and Dane counties. The exact counties will not be finalized until the campaign officially files for a recount.
In Wisconsin, the losing candidate has the right to request a recount if the margin is less than one percent. However, because President-elect Joe Biden won the state by a margin of 0.7%, or about 20,000 votes, the Trump Campaign must prepay the cost of the recount upfront. If the Trump Campaign wants a statewide recount, they must pay nearly $8 million by tonight at 5:00 PM CT. Once paid for and finalized, the recount would begin this Friday. The recount must be completed by Tuesday, December 1.
