STATEMENT: Voting Rights Victory in Arizona

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As a result of a settlement agreement filed in court today, the Arizona Secretary of State agreed to expand early voting opportunities for minority voters throughout the state. We first brought this lawsuit in November on behalf of Voto Latino, Priorities USA, and an individual voter, challenging Arizona’s mail ballot deadline law and practice that systematically disenfranchises voters. Since 2008, the Election Day Receipt Deadline has collectively disenfranchised more than 17,000 Arizona voters. In particular, this law has had a disproportionate impact on Hispanic and Latino, Native American, and rural voters
